NN: As a songwriter, what is your favorite song that you’ve written? Why? The crowd was awesome, I really don't even know how to describe it other than that. It was kind of set up like a Secret Santa where no one really knew who was going to be playing, but it was awesome. It was an all acoustic show and Adam Craig was the big Special Guest. Taylor: I think my favorite show was in Decatur, Illinois. NN: Tell us about one of your favorite shows? Who was it with? What made it so memorable? I think it's so cool to see other artists that have been at it for awhile and their interactions with their fans, there's so much love and it's just really cool. Taylor: I think the biggest piece of advice that I have been able to receive is just be yourself, be genuine and just have fun. NN: You’ve shared the stage with acts like Old Dominion, what is the best advice you’ve received or learned from watching those acts perform? Taylor: Put It In A Song is such a fun song and I wrote it from the perspective of a new relationship with the idea of 'you like the person so much, but how do you tell them?' I just love the energy of the song itself and I think it will resonate well with listeners, especially those who know exactly how it feels to be in that position. NN: You are currently in the NashNext Competition, tell us about your song “Put You In A Song” and why you chose that one. I was there for 2 years and as much as I loved it, it just reminded me of how much more I loved playing and writing music and now here I am. I participated in a lot of different talent shows, some local talent contests, I auditioned for American Idol and I also auditioned for the Voice, but I really had in my head that I wasn't going to go anywhere so I hung up the idea of music for awhile to go to run Track and Field at Kutztown University. I'd literally walk around the house belting lyrics until someone told me to be quiet, which was very frequent and I taught myself how to play guitar when I was 16. It wasn't until I was about 14 that I really started to take music a little more seriously and up until then I really was a closet singer. I would say my sound toes the line between Country and pop however I feel like I have so many other genre influences in my music as well so it's definitely a little different, it is country, but it's different. Taylor Acorn: My name is Taylor Acorn and I'm a 23 year old singer/songwriter from Lynchburg, VA. She wants to give her listeners a space where they can feel free and vulnerable, a place where healing is accepted no matter who you are or where you’ve come from.NN: Start by telling us a little bit about you, your sound, and how you got into music? With her infectiously relatable releases of “Do That Again”, “In My Head” and “Shapeshifting”, Taylor is now leaving her own footprint in the pop punk community giving her fans a place to feel safe and to feel heard, by tackling tough subjects such as mental health by sharing her own personal struggles. Covers aren’t the only thing that’s been grasping the attention of fans though. Since then, she has gained the attention of many emo/pop punk bands with her newly rendered versions of their songs. However, she never felt at home creating country music and in the midst of the 2020 pandemic went back to her pop punk roots with her cover of “Jamie All Over” on Tik Tok, sparking the attention of many elder emo fans as well as Mayday Parade themselves. She first left her mark in the country music world with her 2017 single “Put It In a Song” followed up by an EP she wrote solely on her own, which now garners nearly 50 Million streams, releasing several singles to follow. Hailing from the small North Central Pennsylvania town of Wellsboro, Taylor had always dreamed of a career in music and in 2014, dropped out of Kutztown University to pursue just that, setting her sights for Nashville in 2017. Growing up in the early 90’s & 2000’s pop punk/ pop rock scene, for Taylor Acorn it was never a phase.
